Artel Video Systems Introduces 3RU, 12-Slot Chassis for its Modular Video Transport Platform

New Form Factor Brings Additional Flexibility and Performance to the Company’s Flagship DL4000 Line

WESTFORD, Mass. — April 11, 2011 — Artel Video Systems, a leading provider of video-over-fiber and IP transport solutions, today announced the release of the DL4300, an expanded 12-slot chassis for the company’s DL4000 modular video transport platform. Designed for compatibility with the dozens of available DL4000 modules, the chassis is ideal for central office applications where multiple circuits are aggregated and a larger chassis simplifies installation requirements, saving time and money.

The DL4300 builds on the existing DL4000 digital video transport system, a nextgeneration, modular platform from Artel Video Systems offering reliable and easy-to deploy solutions for critical video backhaul and contribution applications. Telcos, video service providers, and CATV operators have come to rely on the flexible DL4000 to
manage their transport needs effectively for any video format over diverse network topologies. The DL4300 joins the DL4000 and DL4042 1RU four-slot chassis and the DL4100 single-slot portable chassis to create a comprehensive array of options for any application.

“The DL4300 is one of our most ambitious design enhancements to date. As with most of our enhancements to the platform, our inspiration came from our customers. They asked for a larger chassis to minimize installation and wiring costs in their central officeand hub locations, and we delivered,” said Richard Dellacanonica, president of Artel Video Systems. “The expanded chassis options now give DL4000 users the ability to mix and match chassis to best fit their installation environment while still getting the benefits of the features, flexibility, and reliability of DL4000 function modules.”

The DL4300 includes all the existing DL4000 design features including on-board DLManager HTTP and SNMP Element Management System, a dependable passive backplane with module-to-module video connectivity, non-spaced installation making it one of the most space-efficient platforms in the industry, and NEBS level 3 certification
for installation in Telco facilities and to ensure reliable performance in harsh environments.

The DL4300 is on display in the Artel Video Systems booth at the 2011 NAB Show. More information on the DL4300 as well as on Artel Video Systems is available at www.artel.com.

Artel Video Systems Adds Video-Over-IP Gateway at the 2011 NAB Show

WESTFORD, Mass. — April 11, 2011 — Artel Video Systems, a leading provider of video transport-over-fiber solutions, today announced the release of the DLC410 Video-Over-IP Gateway, the newest addition to the company’s flagship DL4000 arsenal. The DLC410 is a DVB-ASI and SD-SDI-over-IP gateway enabling the transport of two bidirectional video streams across a single Gigabit ethernet IP connection. The new DLC410 marks the first availability of a video-over-IP gateway for the DL4000 platform, representing a natural progression for Artel after years of leadership providing broadcast-quality video-over-fiber transport products.

The DLC410 greatly expands the DL4000 platform capabilities to include standards-based video-over-IP transport for both DVB-ASI and SD-SDI formats. Carefully designed and based on SMPTE 2022 standards for encapsulation and forward error correction (FEC), the DLC410 enables up to four channels of SDI and ASI video streams to be reliably transported across managed IP networks and is ideally suited for multicasting applications.

“The module’s low cost, reliability, and rich feature-set make it an ideal solution for CATV operators and video service providers with intercity video connectivity requirements,” said Richard Dellacanonica, president of Artel Video Systems. “Up until very recently, IP connectivity wasn’t reliable enough for the critical contribution applications our products support. Now that IP backbones are more robust and a SMPTE standard has been developed, this new IP gateway makes sense for our customers.” The gateway allows two independent video channels in each direction to be transported over a single Gig-E connection. SDI video is transported in its entirety, including all ancillary data, and ASI video streams from less than 20 Mb/s to over 200 Mb/s are supported. The forward error correction enables the recovery of lost, errored, or delayed IP packets and can withstand burst outages in excess of 15 milliseconds. The SMPTE 2022 standard, which Artel helped to develop, eliminates some of the chief fears and/or complaints about reliable IP transport of SDI and ASI.

The DLC410 is simple and intuitive to configure and offers access to IP networks through convenient, rear-accessible, field-replaceable small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers either optically in WDM, CWDM, and DWDM wavelengths or electrically via an RJ-45 SFP.

The DLC410 will be on display in the Artel Video Systems booth N6129 at the 2011 NAB Show. More information on the product and Artel Video Systems is available at www.artel.com.

Artel Integrates Video Transport Platform With Skyline DataMiner™ Network Management System

WESTFORD, Mass.March 21, 2011 — Artel Video Systems, a leading provider of video transport-over-fiber solutions, today announced the integration of the company’s flagship DL4000 video transport platform with the award-winning DataMiner™ network management system (NMS) from Skyline Communications. The integration of the two products offers enhanced convenience, efficiency, and flexibility to the global base of network operators deploying operational systems comprised of disparate equipment by allowing for a centralized management system.

The integration of Artel’s DL4000 with Skyline’s DataMiner benefits operators by offering a leading and proven full-featured NMS package for the umbrella management of workflows that contain Artel solutions.  Additionally, the solution is future-proof because it’s easily integrated with other third-party products that may be added to the workflow later. While a mix of proprietary, vendor-specific solutions can create  operational limitations and increase the overall cost of ownership because of interoperability issues (i.e. lack of automated cross-correlation, uniform access security), a vendor-agnostic NMS like DataMiner eliminates this concern.

“Integrating support for the DataMiner NMS into our video transport platform provides
operational flexibility for our customers — and that’s consistent with our business
philosophy,” said Richard Dellacanonica, Artel’s president. “This integration makes it easier for our existing customers to begin using DataMiner to manage their networks. Plus, operations already using DataMiner can seamlessly add Artel into their workflows.”

The DL4000 digital video transport system from Artel Video Systems is a nextgeneration,
modular platform that offers reliable and easy-to-deploy solutions for critical
video backhaul and contribution applications. Telcos, video service providers, and CATV
operators have come to rely on the flexible DL4000 to effectively manage their transport
needs for any video format over diverse network topologies.

“We applaud Artel’s strategic and progressive decision to offer its customer base a
powerful NMS solution based on an open-architecture, multivendor platform,” said Ben
Vandenberghe, sales and marketing director at Skyline Communications. “DataMiner is
deployed worldwide and is compatible with a wide range of products, and now through
the integration with DL4000, we will be able to further help network operators realize
greater efficiency and flexibility.”

The DataMiner network management platform enables operators to monitor large
systems made up of disparate equipment with a single platform. DataMiner improves the
operator’s ability to manage large, complex networks by increasing the speed and
efficiency of data gathering and analysis that operators can then use to improve
customer service and network performance. The platform enables end-to-end integration
of the most complex technical ecosystems and has been deployed by leading operators
globally.
